BARBADOS GUIDE

Striking tropical landscapes, action-packed activities and glamorous island life. It’s no wonder that thousands flock to the sun-drenched paradise of Barbados every year. The eastern Caribbean island is only 21 miles in length and 14 in width, making it the perfect island escape for those all around the globe.

Peak and off-peak seasons

One of the main reasons to head to Barbados during all seasons may have something to do with the 3000 hours of sunshine the island sees each year as well as it’s cultural depth. However, peak season in Barbados runs from December to April and low season is June to November.

What is the main attraction?

Whilst the small island is widely known for its British roots, friendly people and locally sourced rum, there is no denying that one of the main attractions that brings visitors back year after year is its pristine beaches. The small island has over 60 beaches, all of which are open to the public. All around the island, visitors can partake in kayaking, swimming with turtles and snorkelling past colourful coral reefs, as well as simply kicking back on the golden beaches sipping a cocktail. However, beaches on the east and west coast offer different experiences based on what you’re looking for.

East coast

Whilst more rugged, beaches on the east coast make perfect surfing spots for beginner surfers as well as challenging those more experienced at riding the waves. However, different parts of the east coast will offer varying experiences depending on what beach you go to. You can find anything from huge Atlantic waves crashing along the shore, to lively waves you can have a lot of fun with.

West Coast

The west coast, also known as the Platinum Coast, has perfect sugar-white sands, crystal-clear waters, and offers total relaxation. Beaches on the west coast are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and those that prefer still waters. Along this coast are some of the best beaches and relaxation spots on offer throughout the Caribbean islands.

What brings people to the area

Watersports

The wide selection of water sports is a key draw for many who visit the island. With an extensive number of beaches offering different experiences, there are many options available for families or for those seeking an adrenaline rush. Whether your interests are speeding off on a jet ski, exploring below the surface with a scuba tour, or drifting along in a sailboat, there is something for everyone.

Harrison’s Cave

In the heart of Barbados lies one of it’s greatest wonders – the magnificent Harrison’s Cave. Whether exploring the caves, attending an event or even getting married, hundreds flock to the caves every year to see this crystallized, limestone cave characterised by flowing streams, deep pools of crystal-clear water and towering columns.

Bridgetown

Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados which is situated on the southwest coast. It’s widely visited for its sights, old colonial buildings and shopping along Broad St. The entire downtown area and south to the Garrison was named a Unesco World Heritage site in 2012 for its historic significance.

Holetown Festival

Every year since 1977, the island of Barbados comes together to celebrate the anniversary of the first English settlement in Barbados. The week-long celebration occurs every year during mid-February and includes a number of activities which showcase the culture and traditions of Barbados.

Why should I invest in Barbados?

There are a lot more benefits to having a Caribbean holiday home other than owning property in this gorgeous part of the world, one of which is the overall stability. The island is a very stable place both economically and politically. With a low crime rate, good roads, hospitals and schools, it’s no wonder the island attracts the elite, family holidaymakers and backpackers alike. The resilience of the Barbados market is reflected in the financing options available and their legal system is based on the UK, so the buying process will be familiar to Brits. With several direct flights from the UK every day, Barbados’ enduring popularity is no surprise and is still the classic Caribbean destination for holidaymakers as well as home buyers.
